(Honorable Mention – Mixed Media)

My artwork is titled Appearance Toxicity. This art piece was inspired by Poster Boy and Kenny Scharf. It was created to show how media’s expectation on a woman’s body can affect them. The mirror drawn, Mirror of Lies, shows the woman looking in that she is fat even though she is only a sack of bones in reality. There is also an invisible demon floating around the woman that you cannot see in the mirror telling her unkind things and harassing her on her appearance. An example would be that it tells her that she should use the make-up products to cover her ugliness. There is also the magazine clipping that are words and images. The words are unkind and the images are some of the expectations pushed on women. Over all this was created to make people aware of this problem that some women have.
