This was my first time exploring the raku firing technique. All I can say is it was exhilarating! The entire process involved every sense: there was the sound of the cracking glazes and bubbling water, the heat of the fire, the strong smell of the burning ash, the wind, the sight of the glowing pieces. At one time I threw more saw dust unto my piece and the ash that was suspended all around my face caught on fire.–I was not scared but I certainly felt the heat and saw nothing but flame engulfing me for a split second. The eclipse of the entire process was to see my first and only raku piece which far exceeded my expectations. Raku is a life of its own.
