Into The Blue

April 18, 2016 ASAA

TMHS-2015-2016-Cover
(1st Place – Communication Arts / Graphic Design)

Title of Art Piece: Into The Blue
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2016
Student/Artist’s Name: Sonny Mauricio
School: Thunder Mountain High School
Grade: 11th
Artist Statement: I created this image for our high school yearbook (TMHS). You are looking at the front and back cover. It shows the entire Mendenhall Valley and the Thunder Mountain, the school, the Glacier – all in blue, which is our school color. I started out by outlining the mountains, and then I worked my way forward to create more layers showing the forest, the school and the radio tower. You can see people on top of the mountains. Each layer has a different shade of blue to add depth to the entire image. I used “Adobe Photoshop” to create the image. Everything is handmade, from scratch.
Artwork Dimensions: 8×10

Wild and Free Set

(2nd Place – Communication Arts / Graphic Design)

Title of Art Piece: Wild and Free Set
Category: Communication Arts / Graphic Design – 2016
Student/Artist’s Name: Toma Kimlinger
School: Juneau-Douglas High School
Grade: 12th
Artist Statement: Clay is fundamentally earth. I wanted to create environmentally friendly water bottles and decorate them with clear illustrations that inspire respect for our environment and ecology. When I learned I could create clean, graphic paintings on pottery with underglaze, I followed through with my idea. I hope to try out the screen-printing process with underglaze – then I can make party plates to replace paper plates!
Artwork Dimensions: 10″ tall x 15″ wide across all 3 pieces x 3.25″ wide = thickest bottle
